Dance and Music in Sikkim
Dance and music are one of the most important aspects of Sikkimese culture and entertainment. There are different dance and music forms prevalent in Sikkim. The dance forms are mostly associated with the beauty of nature and depict the harvesting season. The traditional dances are accompanied by tunes of different musical instruments. Some of the dance forms of Sikkim include Lu Khangthamo, Rechungma, Maruni, Tamang Selo, Limboo Folk Dance Yak Chaaam and Mask Dance. Being a hilly state, the people here have very little access to the modern urbanity hence music, dance is a primary part of the lives of the people here.
Rock Music Scenario in Sikkim
Apart from the folk culture, Sikkimese people are also into western music and heavily into this kind of music. Some of the famous rock bands in India have evolved from this state of north east India. Since 1968 with the rise of bands like Orchids and Flickers, the music scene of Sikkim had undergone a drastic change in terms of genres. However this period of rock and roll came to an end in 1973 and then again in the year 1982 it was revived by the bands Shooting Star and Soul Saviour. Formed in 2001, Still Waters is a band from gangtom Sikkim which gained popularity after it had performed in the Great Indian Rock Music festival. A band of five members, they even featured in the RSJ magazine which is a commendable feat.
Girish and the Chronicles
Another hard rock band from Gangtok formed in the year 2009 is a sensation in the music scene in india who has performed at an international level too. Presently based in Bengaluru, it is a four member band with Girish Pradhan at the vocals. Some of its hit singles are Loaded, "I wanna get that lovin' again" and “A new beginning”
Other rock bands from Sikkim are Damag Era,Dream Diabolic and the Phynyx which is the first ever all-girl rock band from Sikkim.
Mangan Music festival in Sikkim
Held in North Sikkim from the 12th to 14th of December every year, the Mangan Festival is a music festival wherein competes the rock bands from the entire North east. The event is an unavoidable one for the nature, beauty and the ambience makes it one of a kind and people from different parts of the country visit it. Apart from the rock music festival, other attractions of the event are cultural and ethnic food and handicraft items and exhibition.

One of the significant items which one can buy from Sikkim is the Dragon set carved in gold and silver and also embedded with precious stones. One can also buy the popular tea and cardamom from Sikkim.
