West Sikkim district is one of the four administrative districts of Sikkim state. It has its headquarters at Gyalshing (also known as Geyzing).
The district shares common boundaries with North and South district to its North and East sides respectively. Nepal and the state of West Bengal are situated towards West and South directions. Gyalshing town is located at a distance of 117 km from Gangtok.
West Sikkim was the capital of ancient state of Yuksom. The district has a rich variety of flora and fauna. Most of the people depend on farming and cultivation. The people are mainly of Nepalese origin. Nepali is the most widely spoken language of the district.
