Climate of Sikkim
The climate of Sikkim varies from
subtropical in the south to
tundra in the northern parts. However, the inhabited regions face a
temperate climate with temperatures hardly exceeding 280C in summer and
falling below 00C in winter. Sikkim is one of the few states in India to
receive regular snowfall. The
snow line is around 6,000 metres (19,600 feet).
Heavy rains
occur during monsoon seasons i.e. from mid-June to August. The state has
been recorded a longest period of rainfall for eleven days. Fog also
affects many parts of the state during winter and the monsoons, making
the state extremely difficult to
access.
